Starting at Stockbridge Pre-school

Easter bonnet

Once you have been given a starting date please try to attend with your child for a few sessions before that day. There is no charge for this.

This not only accustoms your child to the group but also gives you a valuable insight into what your child will be doing in the time spent with us. This settling in period also allows staff, parent and child time to get to know each other.

You and your child will be assigned a Key worker. It is this person’s role to be your child’s special friend at pre-school. To find out more see the page on the Key worker system.

If you have any questions to ask or comments to make please do not hesitate. However if you require a lengthy response it would he better to wait until the end of the session. We do get very busy during a normal morning!

Once your child has officially started and is happy you may stay or go as you wish. We feel that it is very important that both you and your child are happy and comfortable about the separation. You know your child best and we are pleased for you to stay for as many sessions as you need to settle your child, or to reassure yourself that they will be all right. Some children send their parents packing on the first morning others want them to stay for a whole term. You can never know before hand how your child will react, Never feel awkward or embarrassed, children are all different, talk to your key worker if you need advice.

It is hoped that you will be able to visit pre-school at least once a term. The children enjoy having someone who is special to them come to help. The staff also appreciates the opportunity of getting to know you a little better. Most parents find helping daunting the first time but actually enjoy themselves whilst they are with us. The staff will tell you what to do and show you where things are, and if you do find yourself at a loose end the children love a quiet story in the book corner. If you sit there I promise you will not be on your own for long.

Clothing

The pre-school provides protective clothing for the children when they play with messy activities.

The pre-school encourages children to gain the skills which help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet and taking off - and putting on - out door clothes. Clothing which is easy for them to manage will help them to do this.

Sweatshirts/T-shirts

Sweatshirts and t-shirts are available to buy in pre-school. Wearing the pre-school t-shirt encourages children to feel a part of our group and also ensures that no best clothes are ruined by painting or glueing accidents.
